Hans Rudolf Bosshard did his apprenticeship as a typesetter from 1944 to 1948. He taught typography at the graphic schools of Winterthur and Weinfelden, and from 1963 to 1991 at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zürich. Until 1991 he was the editor of the international magazine Xylon for letterpress graphics. He is also a publisher at Januspresse. He lives and works as a publicist and book designer in Zürich. Among his publications are Sechs Essays zu Typografie, Schrift, Lesbarkeit (1996), Rastersysteme: Die Auflösung des Rasters (1997) and Der typografische Raster (2002).
